2005 critical review: nanoparticles and the environment
P Biswas P and C-Y Wu :: Journal of Air Waste Management Association vol. 55, no. 6, June :: 1 June 2005
Nanotechnology is playing its part in environmental protection, but there is concern that nanoparticles can be detrimental in certain circumstances. To avoid mistakes made by the biotechnology food industry and the chemical industry, research of environmental and health impacts must occur alongside each other. Proper design of products and materials from nanotechnologies is needed to ensure that they have a minimal environmental effect. The life cycle of gas-borne nanoparticles has been studied from formation to degradation. Sources, emissions from industry and other settings and conversion and formation are covered. Their capture and control, use in environmental technology, impact on the energy sector and impact on human health have been considered and further areas for study are recommended.
