Description

VTT is an impartial expert organisation that carries out technical and techno-economical R&D work. VTT develops technologies both to improve the competitiveness of companies and the basic infrastructure of society, and to foster the creation of new businesses. VTT Information Technology (VTT/IT) is focusing on seven areas of research: Information systems, Telecommunications, Networks, Media, Human interaction technologies, Microsensing and Microelectronics. Media research field has special expertise in new concepts and demonstrations of digital packaging printing and applications of digital printing in indicators, sensors, various ID-tags and in printed optics and electronics.

VTT Biotechnology's core technological competences are Bioprocesses, Functionalisation of foods, Systems biology, Metabolic engineering and Industrial biomolecules. The product engineering research field has special expertise in novel active and intelligent packaging technologies concentrating on protection of food, maintenance of quality and facilititation of distribution and sale without stressing the environment.

This projects falls under the VTT wide theme project Proactive, communicative packaging systems. The main purpose is to develop and integrate proactive, communicative packaging with an effective logistics system for sensitive and demanding products. The system is based on wireless communication.
