Announcement of a competitive call for additional project partners
The following project currently active in the Sixth Framework programme of the European Community for research, technological development and demonstration activities contributing to the creation of the European research area and to innovation (2002-2006) requires the participation of new project partners to carry out certain tasks within the project.
Project contract number
NMP3-CT-2004-500311
Project acronym
SUSTAINPACK
Project full name
Innovation and Sustainable Development in the Fibre-based Packaging Value Chain
Instrument type
Integrated project
Summary of task(s) requested
In the fibre based packaging value chain, there is considerable industry consolidation upstream. Downstream the industry is more fragmented. In some countries SMEs take a share of more than 60%, in the manufacturing and converting part of the chain. The IP will allow an improved opportunity for the SMEs to integrate research into new products and processes. To achieve a market breakthrough of the new packaging options SMEs must incorporate new front end research and develop their converting and manufacturing technology.
Sustainpack is focused on achieving demonstrators to show the usefulness of the research work and to trigger development in the forest based industrial sector.
The objective of a demonstrator project is to prove the technical viability of a new technology together with its possible economic advantages under realistic conditions. Demonstrators can be characterised by specific features and typically the projects should:
- include technologies (methodologies, practices, etc.) representing a high degree of novelty, either novel technology or novel application or - even better - both
- not include any research activities: all of the necessary knowledge must be available for the proposers to implement the demonstration
- be executed on a scale of operations representing reality
- include both technology producers (i.e. the inventor) and technology users (i.e. industry partners from the consortium, etc.)
- be pre-competitive. Therefore, the projects should aim at demonstrating a novel technology or a novel application and cannot include marketing activities (i.e. technologies/products already on the market for the same application cannot be demonstrated)
- have a clear European dimension and significance (include two, or preferably more, partners from different Member States)
- include targeted dissemination to potential users and to other groupings that can influence the future success of the technology in the market place (this "Extended Audience" could include for example platforms of users, authorities, opinion leaders, interested organisations, etc.)
These demonstrators have to be tested and developed from manufacturing and converting up to, in some case, full market evaluations. We therefore seek SMEs (see sme.cordis.lu/docs/sme_definition_leaflet_en.pdf for definition) that have the ability to participate in the development of a Demonstrator.
More information about respective Demonstrators, the specific expertise sought for each Demonstrator as well as practical information about the application process can be found on this website.
